FAQ's

  • How Much Is A Commission

The artist works in two key media:

    Pen and Ink (Colour Optional)

Pen and Ink with or without a wash of colour. The artist works on acid-free paper to ensure the longevity of the artwork, and the price starts at £2,500 for an A2 piece. He also works in larger sizes. If this is too high for you, the artist is more than willing to consider your commission concept if it intrigues him, regardless of your budget. He also has the option of paying in installments.

    Oil Paintings

Mark creates stunning oil paintings on canvas, starting from a vibrant one meter squared. He handcrafts his own paints to achieve bold, impactful colors. Prices range from £7,500 to £25,000, but there are definitely affordable options available. His passion for art truly shines through every piece, making his work both unique and attainable!

  • How Long does a Commission Take

Creating a pen and ink piece typically takes about six to eight weeks. If you're interested in a visual biography, we may need an extra month for thorough research.

For oil paintings, the process usually spans two to six months, allowing each paint layer to beautifully oxidize before the next one is applied. Exciting, isn't it?

  • Completion of Artwork

Today is the grand unveiling. For the first time, you will see the whole picture. This could be done at the studio or at home - whichever is most convenient.

As you stand before the artwork, a unique emotional journey begins. The room falls silent, and you find yourself drawn into the intricate details of the piece, forming a deep connection with the artist's vision.

You notice things in the windows. The door is open, and you can almost see the grandchildren as they come out to play.

As you step back, a wave of emotions washes over you. A smile spreads across your face, perhaps a tear of joy escapes. This is the power of art, to evoke such raw and unchecked feelings.

If the art has met your expectations, the next step is to discuss framing options. We're here to guide you in choosing a frame that not only enhances the picture but also complements your space.

It needs to work both to enhance the picture and to work with the room. We can happily let you know if you need help.

  • What is a Certificate of Authenticity

A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a document or label that verifies the authenticity or genuineness of your artwork.

It provides security and reassuring evidence that the item is an original piece of art, not a counterfeit or imitation, giving you peace of mind when investing.

The COA includes details such as the completion date, the artist's information and materials used (this can help with future conservation), and a description of the item.

The certificate may also include a recognised authority's signature, stamp, or seal to validate its authenticity.

COAs are often used to significantly enhance an item's value and legitimacy in the art market, making it a wise investment for art collectors.

It helps the auction house by meticulously establishing provenance, thereby ensuring the value and security of your investment in years to come.

  • What Happens if I'm Not Happy

    The Artist's Vision

At Mark Hilsden Studios, we are passionate about creating artwork that truly resonates with you. It's not just about the final piece; it's about the entire creative journey we embark on together. To keep you engaged and excited, we’ll share regular updates and progress photos as your artwork unfolds.

Art is a beautiful, multi-layered process, and each piece evolves through development and refinement. While the early stages may sometimes look different from the final vision, please know that every step we take is essential in shaping a stunning, harmonious outcome.

    Your Satisfaction Matters

Your happiness means the world to us! If you feel the need for any adjustments, we're more than happy to revisit your artwork and can even recreate it up to three times at no extra cost. After that, just a small fee may apply for major changes.

And here's our commitment: if after 90 days you find your connection to the artwork fading, we’ll happily offer you a full refund, minus any partner-related costs like framing and installation.

    A Thoughtful Approach

We genuinely appreciate your feedback. If you’re not fully satisfied, we want to hear from you! My wife loves turning blank walls into captivating displays, and we aim to make that experience as enjoyable for you as possible.

    Share the Love

If you’re thrilled with your new artwork, we would be so grateful if you could share our vision with friends and family. Passing along this brochure means so much to us! Thank you for being an essential part of our artistic journey.
