Story behind Country Life

The Country Life Project

Throughout the lockdown, Mark embarked on a profound journey of reflection, drawing inspiration from the themes of people and place in his earlier solo exhibitions.

He explored Edward Hudson, the esteemed publisher and printer who created and developed the Country Life magazine, which is still flourishing today, and his connection with architect Edwin Lutyens sparked tremendous curiosity.

After weeks of dedicated research, Mark's enthusiasm flourished, becoming the above artwork.

This personal and heartfelt tribute piece was proudly presented to Country Life magazine in honour of its remarkable 125 years of excellence!
